Story, Beauty, and a World that Means

My Prayer

Lord, make me love as Jesus loved:

despising that small tepid emotion which would put you in a box of good-will and genial kindness and would forever lock you away from the sweat, grime, and abrasiveness of life lived and people loved.

Lord, make me serve as Jesus served:

rejecting the lie of “good deeds” and volunteerism that would forever cage a passion and fierceness that must melt the stones of complacency with the fire and force of a volcanic eruption.

Lord, make me worship as Jesus worshipped:

going far deeper than the swirl of emotions that accompanies the drum and the shout, which descends to a place of bedrock firmness that, like a mountain in its derision of the wind, refuses to budge from its roots in the steadfast promises of a God who covenants with his people.
